PROMISE aims at advancing scientific knowledge on RSV to better inform public health strategies and to support the development and introduction of novel immunisations tools and therapeutics against this potentially deadly virus in the paediatric and elderly populations. The projects works in close collaboration with public health bodies.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, ECDC already collaborated with PROMISE predecessor project, RESCEU, by developing national RSV surveillance guidelines. Now, PROMISE aims at building on this to pilot age specific standardised data collection and reporting of RSV surveillance data on a fortnightly basis. This will be carried out by the launch of an electronic fortnight bulletin which will raise awareness of RSV as a major public health problem amongst all stakeholders and provide baseline data for evaluating the impact of an RSV vaccine / mAb.

PROMISE partners are also gathering information on burden of disease (health, healthcare and economic) and commenting the WHO Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) and extended Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) case definitions for RSV. This work can contribute to the standardisation of surveillance case definition for RSV to facilitate the interpretation of surveillance data.

We look forward to keeping collaborating with ECDC and fight together against RSV.

The mission of PROMISE strongly overlaps with the objectives of public health bodies such as ECDC and the World Health Organisation (WHO)
